I am currently obsessed with making smoothies, particularly one smoothie. Oddly enough I stumbled upon this smoothie while I was at my favorite place near school (Newton Nectar in Newton Centre, MA). I was trying to decide what I wanted and a woman came in and ordered this smoothie and ever since I have made it almost everyday of summer. The best thing about this smoothie is that despite having two servings of vegetables, it still tastes sweet and the ginger packs a punch. It is also really easy to change the smoothie and make it with pineapple instead of peaches. I will warn though that using blueberries or strawberries will still taste good but the smoothie will be brown in color because of the vegetables. Sometimes I add chia or hemp seeds other times I put in some honey if I want it a little bit sweeter. The other great thing about this recipe is that it's low in calories. This one has no dairy (for all those who have unfriendly run-in's with lactose) which means none of the high fat or calories some smoothies have.
First you need this...
1/2 cup organic frozen peaches
1/2 cup organic frozen mango
1 cup organic triple washed spinach
1 cup organic triple washed kale
1-2 tbs grated fresh ginger (as much as you like)
lil bit o' water
Now do this...
After doing this so many times I found a system that works the best is putting in one frozen fruit, then one fresh vegetable, the other frozen fruit and the other fresh vegetable in that order (layering them). Then walk on over to your sink and add about an inch to an inch and a half of water into the bottom of the blender. The layering and water allows for the quickest blend. You can add the ginger (or not), however and whenever you want to. I also suggest having something to push down the vegetables with because sometimes the second layer gets stuck toward the top. Blend until it's green and drinkable!!
